Paul Ashcroft, while I agree that the ‘discard’ option is an antiquated design, the cancel and back options are prevalent even today. Talking specifically about this example, the functionality of ‘cancel’ here is analogous to the ‘back’ of the web browser.

Also, I believe having multiple steps is very contextual- depending on the question length and no. of sections. The form in this example has <10 short questions, and I feel having a single page design is a more practical approach. Let me know what you feel.
